my friend Nancy learned how to throw under the tutilage of greats such as Val Cushing and Ted Turner to name a few. She graduated from Alfred, the mecca of ceramics in the U.S., and went on to lead a life in pottery until marriage and kids stole her away. Along that path, Nancy carried a large amount of bisqued stoneware work with her, waiting for the time to finish it and set it free. After her nestlings flew the coop, Nancy began her pottery again in earnest, Nancy Newlove, but was working in a lower temperature as dictated by her studio hence all that stoneware was still waiting. Enter me and my spanky new skutt kiln, and on wednesday night, all those 30 year old stoneware pieces were completed. She’s an amazing talent and this wheat motiff pottery is a great gift and symbol for the fact that it is never too late to finish what you start…. Happy Harvest!
